Special Delivery Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L II

Wednesday, May 5, 2010 / Personal /

Getting a package in the mail is like a kid getting presents on Christmas. For me its probably one of the most exciting things. To add to that excitement, this time it’s a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L II. I have been wanting this lens for a long time now and I finally decided to give it a go. It is scheduled for delivery sometime today so you should be seeing some wide angled shots from this thing pretty soon. That is if I can catch up on all my older photography posts. Just thought I would share with you a little bit of my enjoyment in my camera gear. If your wanting more info about this lens or others check out Ken Rockwell’s informative site.

Emotional Tilt-Shift Photograph

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 / Personal, Travel /

Alright so I don’t have a tilt-shift lens but I am thinking of getting one soon. Right now I am looking at the TS 45mm 2.8 for Canon as an option. I feel like its just a fad that will be in for a bit then out the next day. But I have seen some really cool stuff done with it so it might be worth the investment. This photograph was taken on the same trip in the Dominican Republic. I just decided to put a little more of an artistic touch to it tonight and thought I would share.

I ended up showing both versions, with and without the lens blur.

Oh and if your wondering how to create this effect yourself in Photoshop check out the Tilt-Shift Photography Tutorial.

Dominican Republic Vintage Retro Photo

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 / Personal, Travel /

Last summer I had an opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic with my church. I have always had this fascination with taking pictures of rail road tracks and when the donkey showed up it just made it that much better. I might have went a little overboard with the distress vintage look but it was fun experimenting at the time. To get this effect I pretty much just warmed the image up in the RAW format. Then overlayed this grunge parchment looking paper on top a few times. I think there might have been some multiply styles as well. To be honest with you after the disease I contracted from this country, its all been kind of a blur.

Awesome Retro Collection #1

Monday, April 12, 2010 / Personal /

Alright this is taking it back quite a bit, but I have some catching up to do. Here is a sweet retro collection I put together from some random locations. The first was actually on the office building roof. The second was taken in the Dominican Republic on a missions trip with my church. The last was taken at Deerfield Beach, FL. All three have a cool retro look to them which I thought would make an interesting collection. More to come in the future.

Welcome To My New Photo Blog

Monday, April 12, 2010 / Personal /

Hey guys it has been quite some time since I have blogged, but this time I am determined to keep up with it. Our team at Creative Volition did a great job at designing and developing this site – Ok, ok, its really just me and Anton, but it sounds better when were a team. Some of my inspiration came from Psdtuts, OverExposed and Amelia Lyon. All of them had such great ideas for developing a killer photo blog.

I wanted the site to be clean and forward, utilizing mostly black and white with some minor pinks to give it a little pop. The goal was to have the majority of color be within the photography itself. Since mostly every post will be comprised of photos, we thought this site would be a perfect opportunity to pull it off. It also integrates well with my Portfolio page which has an all black theme.

The purpose of the site is to showcase my photography work which comprises of anything from weddings, engagements, couples, families, children, travel and personal. Hopefully some of my work can inspire other photographers and help me to build more relationships within the photography industry. I also would like to eventually share ideas, tutorials, resources and make this site really helpful for upcoming inspiring photographers or for the dried out old guys. Sometimes when I blog, I feel like Creed from the office when he was typing into a word document, thinking it was his blog and no one in the world was listening. haha

I would consider my style to be candid photojournalism with an artistic and fresh approach to digital photography. I would really love to get more involved with high fashion luxury weddings, just because the work and attention to detail that is put into their weddings. Plus they tend to understand the value of creative and professional photography. At this point though, I will take what ever I can get. I would still consider myself new within the industry and I am hungry to get some dates nailed down.

My background has been with art and graphic design. Unlike most photographers who learn the fundamentals first, then lead into post production I have the unique order of learning the opposite way. It has actually served me pretty well with retouching photos, capturing unique angles, setting up proofs and prints, photoshop effects and web development.

So welcome to my new blog. This is going to fun. :)
